Ruckus Wins iKids Award for Crayola iReaders

Crayola-icon-1NORWALK, CT: Ruckus Media Group, an independent family entertainment company, announced that the company’s Crayola interactive storybooks have received the prestigious iKids Best eBook Award, from Kidscreen, for children ages 6 and up. The awards, designed to celebrate the best digital offerings for preschoolers and kids, were selected unanimously by a panel of five industry judges per category and were whittled down from 134 entries. Ruckus and Crayola were among fifteen companies recognized at the first annual iKids Awards ceremony in New York.

“Because our goal is to engage children with innovative, fun and educational interactive storybooks, we continually push to raise the bar for quality. We’re thrilled to partner with Crayola, the market leader in children’s imaginative and colorful products for over 100 years, and particularly proud to have been recognized for this award by Kidscreen, a trusted source for children’s digital entertainment,” said Jason Root, Chief Content Officer, Ruckus Media Group.

“These products are really innovative and nurture imagination and creativity. The Ruckus iReaders delight children in the growing digital realm and bring out the colorful fun that is Crayola,” said Warren Schorr, Licensing Crayola.

The Crayola: Ruckus Reader consists of three interactive digital storybooks (Ruckus “iReaders”) with original art and characters, which allow children to make color, object and order selections that persist throughout the stories creating over 500 permutation options per story:

CATERPILLAR’S COLORS: As Caterpillar munches his way through the garden, children get to choose the fruits and vegetables he encounters and pick a color for each. Their choices are instantly incorporated into the final resolution of the story and saved for use in a sticker activity at the end of the story.

PICTURE DAY AT THE ZOO: All of the zoo animals are getting ready to have their picture taken. The animals want to look their best but can’t decide what to wear. As they get dressed up for the photograph, children get to choose & color what special item each animal will wear in the final group portrait!

FIND THAT DRAGON!: There’s a Dragon loose in the village! While Carl and Sarah set off on an adventure to find him, the reader gets to choose what items and colors they find along the way. The choices allow for over 500 possible paths to navigate through the story.

These interactive storybooks can be found in the Crayola: Ruckus Reader app in the iTunes App Store. The first two titles are also currently available in the new Ruckus app available FREE for the iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch from the iTunes App Store.
